High Winds Bring Tree Crashing Down On Hospital Roof

Fallen Tree on Hospital Roof

The high winds we experienced last week, brought this mature 100 foot tall tree crashing down of the roof of the new Jessops Maternity Wing of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in the centre of Sheffield.

Galloway Trees were recommended by James Bird Landscapes Ltd to safely remove the tree before any further damage was caused.

The removal of the tree had to be carefully handled as one false move could shut down the entire maternity wing if the separate buildings housing essential hospital services were damaged.

The only safe way to remove the tree from its precarious location, was to lift it off using a large mobile crane (which was supplied by Steve Foster Cranes), then swinging it down out of harms way before dismantling into small sections and clearing from the site.

Following the successful completion of the works the Hospital Trust Estates department sent the following thank you message

Anthony

Our Estates Director has asked me to convey & extend his

appreciation to all persons involved with the works on

Saturday. Within the many & various concerns which had

the potentials to severely implicate & disrupt the clinical

service continuity, it was pleasing & reassuring to be

aware of the professional expertise & integrated team

work within the priorities of work attended.

Thank you!
